Heather Smith is a Certified Social Worker. She is highly skilled in the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions in children, adolescents, and young adults. Heather works closely with parents to treat trauma, crisis, and maladaptive coping. She collaborates with clients and their families to assess needs, identify goals, and develop effective individualized treatment plans. Her primary focus is on assisting individuals to achieve a greater sense of empowerment, self-acceptance, and security. Heather utilizes a variety of effective approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Family Systems Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Sand-Tray Therapy, Play Therapy, and more.

Heather moved to Utah from the Midwest in 2014 to study Psychology and Social Work. She began working as a psychiatric technician at the Utah State Hospital and volunteered at the Utah County Children’s Justice Center and the Family Support and Treatment Center. She has also worked as an elementary school social worker with Alpine School District, as a trauma and addiction therapist, and as an adolescent therapist in a residential treatment center for girls. Heather’s clinical experiences combined with her personal journey in foster care and adoption have contributed not only to her desire to assist children, adolescents and their families, but also her future endeavor to create a non-profit organization to connect foster care alumni with collegiate mentoring programs and community resources. Heather approaches each individual and family with cultural humility, empathy, and respect. She will join with you and your family to bring healing, create joy, and cultivate resilience together.

Away from the office, Heather spends her time with her husband in the mountains rock climbing, hiking, camping, playing soccer, and bird watching. She enjoys ancestry research, audio books, and spending time together with her family.
